What is translation memory?

Translation memory (TM) is essentially the “memory” or saved files and translations you have used previously. Translation memory can be leveraged to save significant costs and time in future translations. With our Language Management Platform, all translations are saved and can be used for future translations and translation memory.

How does translation memory reduce cost?

Translation memory (TM) saves money because much of the translation will have already been completed from previous translations. There is no need to translate a phrase again. With our Language Management Platform, all the translations will automatically populate from past translations saving both time and money.

Can you work with my previous translation memory?

Yes. We simply import the translation memory into the Language Management Platform and your future translations will leverage what you’ve already paid for and translated.

What advantage does the Language Management Platform have for my translation memory?

The Language Managment Platform can easily import your translation memory and pull from past translation projects to save you significant time and money on future translations.

What software integrations does the Language Management Platform have?

The Language Management Platform has integrations with almost all the major API’s including Desk, WordPress, Drupal, GIT, Python, Sitecore, Adobe, Joomla, Magento, and others. If you are wondering about your platform chances are we can integrate with it. We will do custom integration projects.

Can the Language Management Platform integration with my custom software?

Yes. We are able to build custom API’s and can integrate with every system we have tested.

How do you ensure quality for your translations?

Quality is what we are built on. With over 35 years in the industry, we know the importance of maintaining high-quality standards. Depending on the project type and scope we will set up several review points before completion. All our translations are done by native speakers which also ensures quality and readability. Our Language Management Platform saves past translations in Translation Memory (TM) so you can continuously manage the translations across your brands and materials and keep translation consistent.

What is Machine Translation?

Machine translation is when a language is run through a database looking for an exact match of a word and what that word means in a particular language. Machine translation can be great for simple phrases but we are several years away from having machine translation that can translate for contextual meaning and marketing materials. Our Language Management Platform will leverage both machine translation and human translation if desired.

We integrate with the Google Translate API. As a quick example “You are the apple of my eye” can’t be machine-translated with accuracy across languages but the phrase “I love you” could be. The reason is the contextual meaning and idiom phrasing is extremely difficult to program with a machine.

With human translation, a linguist will know if they should use the word “jeans”, “trousers”, “pants” or “levis” for the translation because of the context and the client’s input.

Unfortunately, machine translation and artificial intelligence thinking engines aren’t yet complex enough. We expect this to happen in the upcoming decade or so. Until then we integrate and leverage the power of machine translation with the benefits of a human linguist.

Can iWL work with machine and human translation?

Yes. We integrate directly with machine translation tools including Google Translate and then pair the machine translation with a human linguist to ensure proper connotation and context for the translation and localization project.

What is a translation glossary and how does it relate to translation memory?

A translation glossary is simply a glossary of terms and the correct translation that correlates to that translation.

For example, if a company wants a word to be translated as “ABC” then that would be in the translation glossary as “ABC” for that word. This is used for translation memory (TM) because it can then be input as “ABC” every time that word or term or phrase is used. This is particularly helpful for marketing or branded materials.

Our Language Management Platform will maintain the translation memory and glossary so future translations are automatically updated with the correct word. This results in saved time and money.

How does the Language Management Platform integrate with Google Translate or Bing Translate?

The Language Management Platform integrates with both Google Translate and Bing Translate through their API. If you want to leverage machine translation the LM Platform can help you leverage the power of machine translation and then pair that with human linguists.

How can I know if the quality of the translation is good?

All of our linguists are tested and independently reviewed before they can translate anything for us. We pride ourselves in our quality and have often been told our translations are the best.

If you are in need of additional reviews of translated materials, we can easily set that up for you. Your projects can be reviewed by several linguists. This is very common with technical work and legal material.

Are there discounts available based on the quantity of work?

Because no two translation projects are the same we will work with you and your team to make sure we all have an understanding of the scope of work. Please communicate the scope and potential project sizes with us and we can coordinate on discounts and payment options.

What is the best way to keep my costs low for a translation project?

Translation costs are often heavily influenced by the total volume of content being translated. So to keep costs down you’ll want to ensure you are leveraging translation memory (TM) to avoid translating the same content multiple times.

How long do your translations take?

The timeline is determined by the project scope and the word count of the content being translated, as well as any revisions needed.

Do you offer fast turnaround time translation services?

Yes, we offer fast turnaround time translation services for those translations that need extra-fast delivery. Depending on the size and complexity of the project, they can be delivered on the same day, in the next 48 hours, or any other specific length of time.

Please, keep in mind that extra charges are applied for rushed projects – the faster the turnaround time, the higher the price.

I have a small amount of text that needs to be translated. Can you help me with that?

We have a minimum of $80 per project, which is the average price for a one-page translation. For translations of a few words or a sentence, perhaps an online machine translator would be more adequate.

We actually need small translations done fast at a regular pace. Could you help us with that?

We are flexible, and we can consider a bunch of separate small translation as one project. It’s all about communication and organization – don’t hesitate to talk to us and explain your needs!

Do you have a pricing table for your translations?

Translation prices are highly variable depending on languages, length, specialization, complexity, formatting, and deadline.

If you want to know how much a project would cost you, simply request a quote with the details, and we will get back to you promptly – no strings attached!

I need a translation in a language that doesn’t appear in your list of languages. Would that be possible?

We can only guarantee our services in the languages specified in our languages list. That said, don’t hesitate to request a quote with your translation project details nonetheless – we can always try our best to accommodate your specifications!

I am a linguist and I would like to be part of your team. What should I do?
